Each Uniworld ship has a unique character whether it be the 109 passenger River Queen, voted by Condé Nast Traveller's readers "Best Cruise Ship" in 2011 or the new 135m SS Antoinette with its unique electronic French balcony system - the push of a button raises or lowers the full window by half to create an outdoor space. All ships have been remodelled by the award winning designers at Red Carnation Hotels. The decor could be considered bold, feminine and striking rather than contemporary but it offers an opulence that few passengers don't grow to love.
Food and drink is very much a focus for Uniworld and they are rightfully very proud of their onboard dining experience as well as their Epicurean Adventurer programme which includes chef demonstrations, wine tasting and interesting, informative talks. Sample dishes include confit of duck, lobster thermador as well as lighter options and cuisine of the particular region. Beatrice Tollman's "A Life in Food" is heavily referenced throughout from her signature salad dressing to a variety of unique recipes, it is worth looking for her dish at every meal time. Wine and beer are also included, free flowing at lunch as well as dinner.
Daily excursions are included under the watch of a highly entertaining and experienced Cruise Manager but this is not all rush. Gentle walking tours are available and it is completely up to you how much or how little you do.
