Day 1: Depart London

Fly from London Heathrow to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City)

Day 2: Saigon

On arrival at the airport in Saigon, you'll be met by an APT representative and transferred to your luxurious hotel for the next two nights, the Sheraton Saigon Hotel and Towers. Settle in and enjoy the rest of the day to explore at your leisure. Saigon was once a bustling French colonial city, and today offers a myriad of attractions that display both its rich culture and fascinating history. Tonight, meet fellow guests and your APT Tour Director during a Welcome Dinner at your hotel.

Day 3: Saigon, Long Tan or Cu Chi Tunnels

Today choose from two Signature Experiences. On the first (min. and max. numbers apply), enjoy a hydrofoil trip to Vung Tàu then travel to Nui Dat to visit the place that served as the Australian Military Base during the Vietnam War. Explore the Long Phuoc Tunnels, which link the village of Long Phouc with the jungle areas to its northeast. It was here that Australian soldiers and Viet Cong guerillas fought the Battle of Long Tan. Afterwards, attend a special memorial service and wreath-laying ceremony at the Long Tan Cross, set in a rubber plantation where Australian soldiers lost their lives. Alternatively, visit the Cu Chi Tunnels, an incredible tunnel network constructed by Vietnamese resistance fighters during the war. Both groups will then return to Saigon for time at leisure. Tonight, enjoy a Luke Nguyen-inspired degustation dinner, complete with matching wines, at Xu Restaurant.

Day 4: Saigon, Freedom of Choice, Embark Cruise

This morning, choose from our range of Freedom of Choice Sightseeing Inclusions. Perhaps enjoy a walking of Saigon, visiting highlights such as Notre Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office, before taking a cyclo ride. Alternatively, tour the Ky Long Art Villa, learn the techniques and processes of Vietnamese lacquer art and see active artist workshops. Or take a tour on the back of a motorbike as you're driven safely through the bustling city streets. Later, depart Saigon and transfer to My Tho Port to embark your luxury river ship for your eight-day Lower Mekong River cruise. Settle in to your suite before a Welcome Dinner in the ship's Mekong Restaurant this evening.

Day 5: Cai Be, Vinh Long

A local boat will take you to the lovely river-land town of Cai Be today. During the ride, see the famous floating markets then step ashore to visit the French Gothic Cathedral as well as the colourful port area, which is filled with colonial buildings and delightful flower gardens. Afterwards, visit a local rice paper manufacturer for insight into how Vietnamese rice paper is made, then enjoy lunch back on board as your ship cruises towards Vinh Long - the second biggest city by the Mekong River. On arrival here, you'll enjoy a small-boat ride and visit a market where you'll see an array of aquatic life being sold.

Day 6: Sa Dec, Tan Chau

Today begins with a small-boat ride past some colourful floating markets to the quaint city of Sa Dec, where the award-winning French writer Marguerite Duras met her Vietnamese lover, Huynh Thuy Le. Disembark and tour Huynh Thuy Le's old house and learn the story behind Duras' best-selling novel, The Lover. Later, visit Thien Hau Pagoda and the beautiful Fujian Temple. Following lunch on board, your ship will continue cruising to the peaceful town of Tan Chau.

Day 7: Tan Chau, Evergreen Island, Border Crossing

This morning, disembark your river ship and transfer to a small boat for a journey along the tiny tributaries that snake around Tan Chau. Step back in time during a visit to a remote evergreen island and see authentic rural Mekong life as yet untouched by tourism. Later, visit a floating fish farm, then step ashore for a rickshaw tour of Tan Chau. Ride past shops, rice wine rooms and friendly locals eager to say hello. The remainder of today is then spent on board your luxurious river ship. This afternoon, perhaps take in a fruit-carving demonstration by one of the ship's chefs while the border formalities are carried out and you cross into Cambodia. After entering Cambodia, your ship will continue cruising overnight towards the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh. This evening, indulge ?in an exclusive Luke Nguyen Signature Banquet and sample the diverse flavours from the region of Luke's heritage.

Day 8: Phnom Penh

Perhaps rise early this morning to take in Phnom Penh's river promenade as your ship nears the capital. After breakfast, disembark in Phnom Penh and enjoy a guided tour of the spectacular Royal Palace, delighting in its dazzling white and gold architecture. This magnificent complex of buildings serves as the royal residence of the king of Cambodia. Afterwards, head to the Silver Pagoda, located on the south side of the palace complex. Later this afternoon, after lunch back on board your ship, embark on a moving excursion to the infamous Killing Fields, before visiting the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, located on the site of the Khmer Rouge's notorious Security Prison 21 (S-21). Here, you'll learn of the atrocities inflicted upon Cambodians during Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge regime in the mid-to-late 1970s.

Day 9: Chong Koh, Oudong, Kampong Tralach

After breakfast this morning, set out for a gentle stroll through the streets of Chong Koh, a little-known silk-weaving village. Then re-board your ship and continue cruising to Prek K'dam, where you'll disembark and take off by coach on an afternoon tour of Oudong, the royal capital of Cambodia from 1618 until 1866. During your time here, visit the monastery for a Buddha blessing experience. Afterwards, continue to Kampong Tralach for a visit to Wat Kampong Tralach Pleu before an ox-cart ride takes you through rice fields and a small village to rejoin your ship, which awaits on the Tonle River.

Day 10: Kampong Chhnang, Tonle Sap *

Today you'll enjoy a small-boat excursion into the wetlands near Kampong Chhnang this morning. Then return to your ship and cast off towards the lake of Tonle Sap. Absorb the tranquillity of the lake as you cruise past floating fishing villages. This evening, enjoy a Farewell Dinner on board.

Day 11: Disembark Cruise, Siem Reap - Freedom of Choice

This morning a short small-boat ride will take you past floating villages to port. Once ashore, transfer to your luxurious hotel in Siem Reap. After settling in, head to World Heritage-listed Angkor Archaeological Park. Visit the last and most enduring capital of the Khmer empire, Angkor Thom, where you'll see the 12th-century temple, Bayon, as well as the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King. Back in Siem Reap this evening, select where you'd like to dine from our five wonderful Freedom of Choice Dining Inclusions - Mouhots Dream; The Citadel; The Square 24; Champey; or the Foreign Corespondents Club.

Day 12: Siem Reap, Angkor

Rise early this morning and travel to World Heritage-listed Angkor Archaeological Park for a glass of champagne as you enjoy a special sunrise experience at Angkor Wat. Afterwards, embark on a guided tour of this impressive temple, the best-preserved temple of Angkor and said to be the world's largest single religious monument. Afterwards, return to your hotel in Siem Reap for breakfast and some time at leisure. Later this afternoon, you'll explore the intriguing temple of Ta Phrom, famous for its intertwined trees. Later, visit a 'grass-roots' orphanage for a glimpse into the lives of rescued orphans and disadvantaged children. Tonight, reflect on your experiences with your fellow travellers at a Farewell Dinner and enjoy a traditional Apsara dance performance.

Day 13: Siem Reap - Freedom of Choice

Today gain a fresh perspective of Siem Reap during your selected Freedom of Choice Sightseeing Inclusion. You may like to visit the temple of Wat Preah Phrom Rath and participate in a Buddhist blessing; enjoy a tuk-tuk ride to the Artisans d'Angkor workshop, where you can shop for local hand-made crafts; enjoy a tethered balloon for stunning views of the temples of Angkor; ride an elephant to the 12th-century temple, Bayon; take off on a quad bike adventure; or perhaps indulge in a relaxing spa treatment. Later this afternoon, your journey draws to its conclusion as you're transferred to the airport for your onward flight.

If the water level in the Tonle Sap lake is shallow, access is restricted. An alternative route operates Prek K'dam to Siem Reap or vice-versa. Embark or disembark at Prek K'dam and transfer to Siem Reap by coach (five hours), stopping at Kampong Thom.

March to April

Due to climate and low water levels in Cambodia, visits to Kampong Chhnang may be replaced by a visit to Xeo Quyt. The change means an extra day in Viuetnam and thus a one day reduction in th Cambodian cruise programme.

Day 5: Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Tralach, Oudong

This morning take a journey on a motorboat to the busy rural port village of Kampong Chhnang. Explore the bustling markets and town then enjoy lunch on board. This afternoon, moor at Kampong Tralach. Our onshore excursion begins with an ox-cart ride through rice fields and a small village to Wat Kapong Tralach Pleu. Afterwards, board a coach and travel to Oudong, the formal capital of Cambodia. Here, you'll experience a Buddha blessing at the Oudong Monastery.

Day 6: Chong Koh, Phnom Penh

This morning go ashore to explore the silk weaving village of Chong Koh. Back onboard, enjoy lunch as we sail to the capital city of Phnom Penh. This afternoon step ashore to explore the town, taking a guided tour of Wat Phnom or have some time at leisure to shop at the Central Markets. This evening after dinner, a special Khmer Folk performance awaits you in the Saigon lounge.

Day 9: Tan Chau

Take a small boat ride navigating narrow channels to visit an evergreen island. You will also visit a floating fish farm before going ashore and touring the town of Tan Chau on a local rickshaw, visiting a rattan mat and silk factory. In the afternoon, we cruise downstream towards Sa Dec.
