Day 1: Lyon

Fly from London directly to Lyon or take the Eurostar to Lille and continue to Lyon by TGV. You will be met at the station or airport and transferred to your ship, MS Amadeus Symphony, for embarkation. This evening enjoy a welcome cocktail party and dinner on board.

Day 2: Mâcon

This morning your ship arrives in Mâcon, a lovely Burgundy wine town set in lush countryside. After breakfast, the included excursion takes you deep into this idyllic region, where romantic castles dot vine-coated hills. The tour culminates at a museum dedicated to the area's Beaujolais wines, where you can taste some local tipples for yourself. After lunch on board, why not join the optional excursion to Cluny Abbey? In the early Middle Ages this now ruined Benedictine abbey was Europe's most powerful monastery and the world's largest Christian structure until St Peter's in Rome stole its crown.

Day 3: Chalon-sur-Saône

Reaching Chalon-sur-Saône this morning, today's included excursion traces the Burgundy wine route to the historic wine capital of Beaune. Here, admire the beautifully preserved Hôtel-Dieu, a 15th century almshouse, before learning more about the local viniculture and sampling some of its famous wines at a tavern. After lunch back on board, you may wish to join the optional excursion to Brancion and Cormatin. Both these medieval villages are a delight to explore and the trip includes a visit to the magnificent Château de Cormatin, which sits amid sumptuous landscaped gardens. Alternatively, drink in the peaceful landscapes of Burgundy as your ship cruises to Tournus for a brief stop.

Day 4: Lyon

This morning offers up an included tour of Lyon. France's second city bursts with beautiful architecture and today&aops;s tour takes in the major landmarks. Admire its elegant squares and splendid Place de Terreaux and see the narrow lanes of the Renaissance old quarter, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This afternoon there's free time to explore this vibrant city independently.

Day 5: Avignon

After a relaxing morning's cruising, your ship reaches Avignon this afternoon, giving you the opportunity to discover this picturebook medieval town famed for the folk song, which celebrates its stone bridge. In the 15th century, Avignon was the capital of Christendom and still boasts robust city walls and the soaring Palais des Papes, both built in a bid to rival Rome's Papacy. Join the walking tour of the city and perhaps explore at leisure after dinner to savour the bustling evening atmosphere of its quaint cobbled streets and old quarter.

Day 6: Avignon - Arles

This morning perhaps join the optional excursion to Pont du Gard and Uzès. The spectacular Pont du Gard aqueduct was constructed by the Romans and is one of the world's ancient masterpieces, while sleepy Uzès provides a lovely snapshot of old-time France. This afternoon, why not continue your explorations on an optional excursion to the beautiful Camargue, famed for its wild horses, or to Roman Nîmes, home to the breathtaking Les Arènes amphitheatre? Alternatively, relax on board as your ship cruises to Arles. This exquisite town was home to Van Gogh when he painted his glorious Sunflowers and boasts a stupendous Roman arena and ruins.

Day 7: Viviers - Le Pouzin

Today the walled town of Viviers is your gateway to the dramatic Valley of the Ardèche on an optional trip. Carved through the millennia by river water, this awe-inspiring limestone gorge is spanned by the Pont d'Arc - a natural stone bridge that has become its symbol. Drive alongside the river, following its course as it snakes through the gorge - the views are thrilling at every turn. After rejoining your ship at Le Pouzin for your cruise back to Lyon, this evening is marked by a special Captain's Gala Dinner.

Day 8: Lyon

After breakfast, disembark your ship and transfer to Lyon airport or train station for your return to the UK, or extend your stay in Lyon

Lüftner vessels are a premium river vessels, providing outstanding comfort and quality, accompanied by superb service in a classic and elegant atmosphere. Standard cabins are a spacious 161 sq. ft, with french balconies on Mozart (upper) Deck. Menus are carefully selected to include local specialities with each dish being a work of art.

They are bilingual cruises (English/German), meaning that all announcements, menus and daily programme, etc. will be provided in both languages. All excursions are operated with English speaking guides.
