Many of the world’s most famous, most loved melodies originated from the shores of the Danube. Bratislava, Passau, Linz and Vienna were on the itinerary of the Mozart family, when young Wolfgang was introduced to the courts in 1762.
Yet he is just one in a very long list of revered composers and musicians who lived along this trail.
Join our Classical Music Specialist, Jeannette Biesbroeck, who shares her passion for music as we discover the beautiful cities where they found their inspiration.
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your flight to Vienna.
Upon arrival, embark MS Bellejour (4T), where light refreshments are available.
A welcome cocktail and captain’s gala dinner are served this evening.
Day 2 - Linz
Spend this afternoon discovering Linz, a city with a rich tradition of classical music.
You may consider choosing an optional walking tour of the city, which includes time in the workshop of violin craftsman Alexander Schütz.
The methods of violin making haven’t changed in 400 years, and creating a high quality violin can take 200 hours, and double the time for a cello.
Day 3 - Passau
Discover Passau at leisure, or explore the city on an optional guided walking tour.
The 17th century Old Town, the creation of Italian baroque masters, includes the spectacular St Stephen’s Cathedral.
The excursion stops here for a recital on Europe’s largest cathedral organ.
Five organs are combined to create the great organ with 223 registers and 17,774 pipes.
Day 4 - Melk
We arrive in the charming town of Melk, where Renaissance townhouses and historic towers are overlooked by a resplendent hilltop monastery, which we’ll visit on our included excursion.
The Baroque Benedictine abbey is home to a library which contains a great collection of old musical manuscripts and a particularly impressive church embellished with gold, marble and many frescoes.
Later this afternoon we cruise through Austria’s Wachau Valley.
Day 5 - Vienna
Vienna is one of Europe’s most beautiful cities, with a rich culture of arts and music.
A large number of highly esteemed composers have lived and performed within the fine baroque churches, palaces and concert halls including Mozart, Brahms, Schubert and Vivaldi.
A coach tour introduces us to its most notable spots, such as the Imperial Palace, where the Vienna Boys’ Choir perform every Sunday during High Mass in the Imperial Chapel. The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra has made the Musikverein their home.
This prestigious classical performance venue is unparalleled. Later on board, you have the opportunity to take a lesson in waltzing, before being swept away at a concert of classical music at one of the impressive palaces in the city this evening.
Day 6 - Bratislava
We’ll see Slovakia’s capital, Bratislava, on an included tour aboard a tourist train. Memorial plaques on the walls of palaces remind you of the great composers who have performed their work here, including a six-year-old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and a nine-year-old Franz Liszt.
Joseph Haydn worked as a master of music for Prince Nikolaus I Esterházy in his city palace, and conducted the wedding ball of Queen Maria Theresa’s daughter in Grassalkovich Palace.
Today the work of these great composers, and their contemporaries, are regularly praised in the city’s resplendent theatres.
We sail to Budapest whilst enjoying the captain’s farewell gala dinner.
Day 7 - Budapest
An included tour this morning introduces us to this fascinating city, where many of Hungary’s most famous musicians and composers lived and worked.
With many monuments reflecting the capital’s long history, stands the luxurious neo-Renaissance Hungarian State Opera House and the modern Palace of Arts, where two concert halls celebrate a century of Hungarian culture; plus the Ferenc Liszt Memorial Museum, where the great composer lived his last years.
Day 8 - Budapest - UK
We transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. Upon arrival, your Titan vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.
