Sensations of Southern France

From

Combining a luxurious three-night stay on the French Riviera with a cultural voyage on the iconic River Rhône, this unforgettable 11-day river cruise and city break is the perfect opportunity to experience the beauty, heritage, culture and gastronomy of southern France. Join us on the French Riviera, and spend three days savouring the Mediterranean splendour of Nice, including a day-trip to the jet set capital of Monte Carlo. This is the perfect opening act in your odyssey through France, with free time to stretch your legs on one of Nice’s fine beaches before boarding your Emerald Waterways Star-Ship for a spectacular Rhône River journey.

Enlivened by Nice’s coastal breeze, the sightseeing begins in earnest in Arles, whose Romanesque architecture is some of the finest and best-preserved outside of Italy. As you cruise north to Avignon, savour a Provencal dinner hosted by a local chef during a special EmeraldPLUS dining event – one of several opportunities to sample the local cuisine during your trip. Entering the wine lands of Beaujolais, sample the vintages of Tournon or enjoy a guided cycling tour of Glun, a beautiful village on the banks of the river. Your journey ends in Lyon, but not before a cultural tour of the city, taking in the Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere and the cobbled streets of the old town, where fine French dining was born.
