Day 1: Arrive in Amsterdam

We meet at St Pancras where a Shearing's rail manager will join the Eurostar service with you to Brussels, where you change trains for the onward connection to Amsterdam. You will be met at the station and transferred to the port to join your ship, the MV Virginia.

This is a lovely city to enjoy a leisurely stroll along the waterways, but there are also some superb museums, including the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum and the poignant Anne Frank House.

Day 2: Volendam & the Zuiderzee

We begin our cruise, travelling northwards through typical Dutch scenery to Volendam, a traditional fisherman's village situated on the shores of the former Zuiderzsee. The town was a popular place for artists, who found it to be untouched by time, and you may see some of the locals wearing Volendam's traditional and ancient costumes.

Day 3: IJsselmeer Lagoon, Hoorn & Enkhuizen

Our leisurely cruise continues to the first port of call this morning, Hoorn, a lovely historic town set on the shore of the Ijsselmeer. The town gave its name to Cape Horn, the southernmost tip of South America, which was discovered in 1616 by the locally-born navigator Willem Schouten. Hoorn was an important port for the Dutch East Indies Company, which brought about the prosperity seen in the town's many old buildings.

We cruise along to the well preserved town of Enkhuizen, where visitors can still see the old fortifications and walls that protected the city. A top attraction here is the interesting Zuidersee Museum, which incorporates an open air park with period houses, streets and canals.

Day 4: Amsterdam & Keukenhof Park Gardens

After cruising back to Amsterdam, today we'll visit stunning Keukenhof Gardens. Open to the public for only two months each spring, the gardens are famous for the breathtaking displays of tulips, which is sure to be a highlight of your trip. Keukenhof is also one of the most photographed sites in the world, so be sure to bring your camera to capture this impressive sight.

Day 5: Depart Amsterdam

Today it is time to leave our ship in Amsterdam, and bid a fond farewell to the MV Virginia as you are transferred to the station for the return journey by rail to Brussels, and onwards by Eurostar to London.

Even though there's so much to see and do throughout your cruise, we know how important it is to you that your cabins offer a comfortable place for you to stay. All cabins have been fully refurbished for 2013 to an exceptional standard. All 53 cabins on board the ship are outward facing and offer fantastic facilities such as flat screen TVs, air conditioning, a safe and hairdryer.

However, when the scenery is as stunning as it is on the Rhine or the waterways of Holland, we don't imagine you'll be spending too much time in your cabin!
