You will leave Boppard and sail along one of the most beautiful sections of the Rhine River Valley, the scenic 40 miles of the upper Middle Rhine Valley. With its vine filled slopes leading to the valley, its 40 castles strung like pearls on the ledges and the famous Lorelei Rock, the gorge is the perfect example of the romantic Rhine. Starting from Medieval Breisach, the gateway to the Black Forest, you will cross the Rhine and head for the Alsatian Wine Road, which hugs the foothills of the Vosges Mountains. You may prefer to linger in the historic centre of enchanting Colmar or continue on to the wine villages of Kayserberg and Riquewihr, where you will ramble along narrow lanes and pass half-timbered medieval houses with conical roofs that are straight out of a fairy tale illustration. Whichever you choose, you'll be treated to an Alsatian specialty, flammekeuche, a delectable flatbread topped with bacon and onions.
