Awake in the tiny baroque village of Dürnstein seemingly lost in time and visit Domäne Wachau for a tasting of the famous Wachau Valley Rieslings. Dürnstein is perhaps most famous for being where Richard the Lionheart was held captive in 1192 and 1193 until he paid a heavy ransom in silver. Take time to wander through the village with its old burgher houses and 16th-18th century townhouses, ending at the exquisite baroque cathedral. Depart Dürnstein and cruise through the heart of the fairytale, vineyard-rich Wachau Valley. This fascinating stretch of landscape along the Danube has recently been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You arrive in Melk, famous for its Benedictine Abbey high atop the granite cliffs of the Danube.

Today you will travel overland to Salzburg, 'the city of salt' and most famously known as the setting for 'The Sound of Music'. Your city tour will take in the Old Town on foot, see the Mirabellgarten and visit the 15th century Cathedral before returning to the ship. Alternatively enjoy a walking tour of Linz followed by a visit to a local farm where you will taste cider produced from pears, called 'Most', named after the region. See a typical Upper Austrian Farm, learn about crops and farm life and try the favourite beverage of the area accompanied by a typical snack of farm fresh local products.
