Combine 2 nights in Nice with a 7 night boutique river cruise through Burgundy and Provence aboard Uniworld's luxurious River Royale.
We begin with a stay on the French Riviera in Nice, with its attractive boulevards, sweeping bay, picturesque harbour and interesting museums, and enjoy an excursion to Aix en Provence before travelling to Arles to join the elegant River Royale.
Your cruise takes you through the heart of Provence and Burgundy, where fine cuisine, wine, art, nature and history are celebrated in equal measure. Discover the colours and lights of the region that inspired painters, poets and writers, as you cruise in luxury along the Rhône.
Highlights include the magnificent Papal Palace in Avignon and the gastronomic city of Lyon, with its delightful old quarter, overflowing with historical buildings and passageways.
We begin with Titan's VIP Home Departure Service® to London Heathrow Airport and your scheduled British Airways flight to Nice. On arrival, we transfer to the 4★ historic Hotel Westminster set right on the seafront in Nice. Dinner is included this evening.
This morning, we have arranged for a walking tour of Nice, allowing you to acquaint yourself with its many appealing squares and architecture. This afternoon is at leisure for you to explore further - you may wish to take a walk along the Promenade des Anglais, the main beach road that began as a coastal path built during the early 19th century by the town's English residents for their afternoon seaside stroll, relax in one of the many cafés and restaurants to be found in the delightful old town, or take a trip to the Parc du Chateau, from which you can enjoy splendid views of the town and sweeping bay.
We depart Nice during the morning and drive through the countryside to Aix en Provence, famous as the birthplace of Paul Cézanne. On arrival, we have arranged for a short guided tour including the Cours Mirabeau, the main boulevard adorned with fountains, richly-decorated façades and ramparts. After free time for lunch, we continue to Arles, where River Royale awaits us for embarkation.
The city of Arles, in the heart of Provence, is renowned for its friendly atmosphere and unique Provençal light that inspired so many artists, and was home to Van Gogh during his most productive period. Once known as the 'Little Rome of Gaul', the city is filled with Roman antiquity and, during your included walking tour, you will encounter the Roman Amphitheatre, Town Hall Square and the St Trophime Cathedral, dating back to the 12th century and Constantine's Roman Baths. Early evening sailing and captains dinner, arriving Avignon late tonight.

Today we visit Avignon, where the exiled Popes held their Papal seat in the 14th century. Enclosed by medieval walls, the Palace is one of Provence's most celebrated sights and, during your included walking tour, you can visit the ceremonial rooms, chapels and apartments with their priceless frescos. Enjoy a stroll around the town and view the famous Pont Bénézet, reaching across the river.

Dating back to the 5th century, Viviers has both a lower town and an upper town, and the latter is an attractive maze of narrow cobbled streets with Renaissance stone houses, a Romanesque cathedral, and a castle terrace that offers wonderful views of the rooftops and river below. On your included guided walking tour, you will stroll along some of the most attractive streets; Rue Chevrerie, Port Riquot and Rue du Chateau. We sail to Tournon later today.

Nestled among the vineyards, the twin cities of Tournon and Tain l'Hermitage are famed for both their wine and chocolate making. Your included tour features a tasting of some of the famous Côtes du Rhône wines of the region. We will also travel to the historic feudal castle of Tournon built into a rock overlooking the town and river. We sail this afternoon, and arrive in Lyon tonight.

Located at the confluence of the Rhône and Saône rivers, Lyon is a city brimming with architectural heritage affording clear references to its 2000-year history, which has gained it a status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This morning, we depart for an included guided tour beginning at the Basilica Notre Dame on Fouviere Hill. You will also see Terreaux Square and the Opera House. Enjoy the Captain's Farewell Dinner this evening.

Your tour is to the pretty town of Beaune and the Hospices de Beaune. The building with its distinctive roof was still in use as a hospital as late as 1960, but is now a museum showing the history of the Hospices set up in 1443, and which exists now as a charitable organisation supported by local vineyards and wine auctions.
