Koblenz
No trip to this area would be complete without a visit to Marksburg castle in Koblenz, which has been inhabited for over 700 years and has changed little in that time.
Koblenz itself is a fascinating town which is over 2,000 years old having grown at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. To mark the spot, the German Corner hosts a famous monument to Emperor William II.
The “must-do” excursion is now to ride the new aerial tram across from Koblenz city centre, across the water to the Ehrenbreitstein fortress, Europe’s oldest on the opposite side of the river, dating back to 1,000BC.
