Rhine River Cruises

Rhine River Cruises explore you to explore one of Europe’s most important rivers, and also one of its most beautiful. Weaving its way a staggering 830km from the Swiss Alps to the North Sea, the Rhine’s waters cover the heart of Europe. From Switzerland in the South, the Rhine crosses into France, Germany and finally The Netherlands. Flanked by world-famous wine valleys and vineyards, rolling hills, fairytale inspiring Castles and spires and a many charming medieval towns and charismatic cities, the romantic River Rhine never fails to impressive and captivate river cruisers.

Highlights of a Rhine River Cruise

Cologne The fourth largest city in Germany is home to The Dom cathedral. The impressive gothic building becomes even more remarkable when the viewer remembers that Cologne was flattened during the latter stages of the Second World War bombing campaign by the allies. Those that prefer the grain to the grape will not be disappointed in the choices on offer in Cologne’s plentiful beer gardens with local pilsners at the top of the bar list. To be soaked up by a salty, soft local pretzel.

Heidelberg In contrast to Cologne, the city of Heidelberg is a show piece of the more ancient times in the Rhine’s history. The red sandstone ruins of Heidelberg castle are perched high on the hill above the red roofs of the pretty medieval market town. Its narrow cobbled streets twist invitingly and offer ample opportunities for sitting and people watching in the quaint cafes. Koblenz Marksburg castle in Koblenz, which has been inhabited for over 700 years and has changed little in that time. Koblenz itself is a fascinating town which is over 2,000 years old having grown at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. The “must-do” excursion is now to ride the new aerial tram across from Koblenz city centre, across the water to the Ehrenbreitstein fortress, Europe’s oldest on the opposite side of the river, dating back to 1,000BC.
